THE NEED FOR VINYL TO DIGITAL CONVERSION

Traditionally DJ's have used vinyl records and turntables in practice and performance.

However new technologies are now available to expand the artform: CD mixing - Ableton Live - Scratch Live - Ms Pinky - Native Instruments Traktor - FL Studios Deckadance - and other digital methods all have at least one thing in common:

Vinyl records cannot be played with these technologies.

DJ's have hundreds or even thousands of prized vinyl records that need to be converted to WAV / AIF / FLAC / MP3 and other digital format(s) of choice before mixing and playback.

THE DIGITAL DILEMMA

More often than not the job of getting your favorite or classic records in digital format never happens.

The process of getting your favorite records converted to quality digital format is a time consuming, technical task that must be done correctly.

IF the records are not cleaned properly
IF your equipment is not hi-quality (turntables, needles, interface, grounding, recording software etc), and
IF you honestly discover that you don’t have the experience to do it right …

Your music will sound permanently scratchy and weak in volume … with less clarity and 'punch' than the original vinyl.

Even if you can overcome these obstacles ... time is the one luxury that many of us cannot afford: converting the average collection of records will take days, weeks or even months of your spare time - if it ever gets done at all.

NITTY GRITTY CLEANING
Your records are first cleaned using fully automatic Nitty Gritty record cleaning machines (the 'Lexus' of record cleaning systems).

These audiophile cleaners are the same machines used by the Smithstonian Institute and the U.S. Library of Congress for archival purposes - we give your records the best chance to record as noise free as they possibly can!

QUALITY RECORDING GEAR
Recorded through professionally calibrated Technics turntables - SHURE archive quality cartridges - MOTU audio interfaces to uncompressed WAV or AIF

MANUAL GAIN ADJUSTMENT
Each record is individually and manually gain adjusted while we record to give you the loudest, cleanest singnal without clipping. (please see Tier 2: Gain Max and Tier 3: Gain Max + Master for additional power out of your records)

ACCURATE TRACK FILENAMES TO SPEC
Tracks are named accurately (Artist-Title_Mix) or exactly to your specificiation. (see our Track Naming Discount!)

ADDITIONAL FORMAT CONVERSION: NO CHARGE
We will converted to any additional formats and / or tagged internally on request (for tagging capable formats)

DELIVERY
Your entire converted collection is then burned to DVD and shipped to you along with all of your records* upon completion of the job.

... your vinyl records are returned to you in better shape than when we received them!

Your records can be additionally volume maximized (Tier 2 service) - and can be additionally ‘remastered’ on request (Tier 3 service).

VTD CONVERSION SERVICE TIERS -- please see our BULK DISCOUNTS!! -- the more you convert, the more you save!

TIER1: BASE Conversion	- $1.49 per track
For Basic Rate the record is recorded as is; no normalization, volume maximization or mastering. We find the highest gain level of each track individually and record to that level without clipping. Basic Rate processing is only for people that are prepared to do the final processing them selves. Without at least L2 processing the track will definitely sound slightly low in volume compared to commercial release.

TIER 2: Gain MAX	- 1.99 per track
Gain Max processing adds peak normalization (not RMS), and special volume maximization equipment to give the track punch and gain comparable to commercial CD and digital releases. Every track is done individually and great care is taken to make sure it is as ‘punchy’ and loud as possible without altering the sound quality "brick wall" smashing the dynamics out. Tier 2 processing is the normal service that the majority of our customers request for the majority of their records.

TIER 3: Gain MAX + MASTER	- $2.99 per track
Includes all Tier 2 processing (see above) – and adds multi-band dynamics, slight EQ, and occasionally a touch of multiband exciter. Each track is done individually and carefully to improve the sound quality to modern standards. If the track doesn’t need it ... we don’t add it. All processing is done sparingly, which is usually all it needs. Usually its the older 70’s 80s and 90's tracks that benefit most from this tier, and sound really great polished up this way.

Internal Tagging -
Some digital formats (MP3, FLAC, MP4, AAC etc) support internal tagging. We can put the tag information in your tracks so you will have all the benefits of this ready to go – for searching, with all track info at your fingertips in your player of choice .. etc.
